Top 10 Songs About College

With winter winding down, college students everywhere are about to enter the dreaded “spring slump” - that uneventful season when summer seems out of reach. Below is a compilation of the top ten songs (in no particular order) that’ll help you power through school by singing about it.

  1. School Spirit - Kanye Westgiphy.gif
How can you go wrong with Yeezus? With The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation, it’s clear Mr. West has an affinity for college themes. The “Runaway” rapper relates personal stories of growth by relating himself to students like us. We can always count on Yeezy when we’re feeling misunderstood.

                2.) I Love College - Asher Roth

Raise your hand if you feel personally victimized by Asher Roth for giving you a false expectations of what college is like. If your life really did turn out like Asher Roth’s ultimate party song of 2009, more power to you. For the rest of us, listening to this song on repeat and riding the good vibes through the quarter will have to do.

3.) School’s Out - Alice Cooper

The sad (but oh so accurate)  truth about songs relating to school is that they often bash it. No one knows more about bashing authority than Alice Cooper himself. Play this as you stare longingly out the window and wait for summer to come.

4.) Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd

Yet another anti-school anthem, Pink Floyd’s track makes for the perfect song to sing along to when you feel totally done with your professor and school in general. “Hey, teacher - LEAVE US KIDS (or 20-something year old students) ALONE!” is exactly what we all want to say.

5.)Break the Rules - Charli XCX

After lulling us all in to her romantic lullaby in “Boom Clap” this past summer, Charli XCX is ready to woke us up with her followup single. With an attitude as punk as can get paired with a stellar video (bonus points for school-bus trashing), she’s not holding back anything.

6.) Stick to the Status Quo - High School Musical

We can pretend that none of us liked High School Musical (like we did unconvincingly back in middle school) but let’s be real: we all watched it. Take a mental vacation from those adult responsibilities with cheesy lyrics and jazz squares. Those record breaking cable views were from kids our age at the time. So don’t play innocent (or mess with the status quo).

7.) We’re Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister

If Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out” was to play when longing for summer, take this song for a spin when you’re in the mood to put on tons of makeup, a bedazzled costume, and start a glam rock band. No judgments here.

8.) Young and Actin’ Up - Asher Roth feat. Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, and Rye Rye

Oh Asher, how you build and build party expectations for us college students. In reality, we’re all binge watching our favorite shows on Netflix. Nonetheless, this is a perfect banger for those Saturday nights when you need to escape. Blast this and dance your academic worries away. Lifehack: if you blast the bass hard enough, you almost forget Bieber is on the track.

9.) Best I Ever Had - Drake feat. Nicki Minaj

While this is technically a mixtape cut from Nicki Minaj (over Drake’s own hit single), the Young Money duo make sparks fly with their chemistry in this song. Minaj drives the student appeal of the song by mentioning some, erm, interesting (and probably prohibited) acts in a dorm room.

10.) Schoolin’ Life - BeyonceBeyonceGif_11.gif

Beyonce celebrates all young adults on this cut from her album 4. This a feel-good track that reminds you to celebrate what you’ve passed and what’s coming ahead. Time really moves fast, so enjoy life being slow during this “slump” because you’re schoolin’ life. Queen Bey said it herself.
